Ok, in response to these comments.. The holy spirit, the living Spirit of God is a promise to all BELIEVERS. Salvation is a choice to receive the free gift. The water baptism represents repentance and rebirth. Jesus told his disciples to wait and tarry until they were filled with the Holy Spirit, it was not automatic. Although they were saved, Christians following Christ!! The bible tells us to ask and we shall receive, it also implies that if we do not receive we should keep asking so if you say you've been baptized in the Holy Spirit and have not yet spoken in your heavenly language, then you should Keep Asking. The triune God - God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit _ is the same yesterday, today, ad forevermore, so if His word, which is His power, says that in His name we shall cast out demons, lay hands on the sick, take up serpents and drink poison and by no means die then that is what we should believe, Let every man be a liar and the word of God be true. We as believers need to increase our faith and take the Lord at His word, for He is not a man that He should lie! The command given for salvation is to repent and be baptized, into Christ for the covering or remission of our sins. The second baptism, the baptism of the holy spirit is Christ coming on the inside of us. Thats why He had to leave his fleshly body so that His Spirit could come and dwell on the inside of us believers!

Marc, thanks for your comment -- sorry I'm so long in replying. I do agree that all Christians have the Holy Spirit to help them. Exactly how that works and to what extent, I don't know. But I believe that is still different from Holy Spirit baptism as described in the passages above. That seemed to be a very different thing and used for a very specific purpose (showing God's approval of a group/message).

Also, if you'll go back and reference the other passages that have been mentioned on baptism, you'll see that many of them actually reference water baptism as one of the elements to salvation and being added to the Lord's church. Acts 8 and 1 Peter 3:21 state that explicitly.

I know that I am late on this; however, I would like to join the discussion even though everyone else has left it. I do not have my Bible with me at the moment, and although I should hesitate to write this till after I have consulted it, I would like to add to this. I still reserve the right to add more later after I have consulted my Bible.

Acts 8 ends with a baptism. The eunuch was baptized in water. 1 Pet 3:21 says that baptism saves. In both of these cases the baptism is water baptism. Rom 6, when speaking of baptism likens it to a burial. When a man is buried, we cover his body with dirt and do not give the corpse a shower.

I just mean that pouring seems to be different language than burial. I know this may seem like a little thing, but I have seen no Christians today that posses the ability to speak in tongues (using real lanquages), heal the sick, raise the dead, drink poison without being affected by it, or could withstand a rattlesnake bite. While Christians do have the Holy Spirit, it must be in a different capacity than those who were baptized with the spirit in the Bible.

I've checked out the link to his blog, and I think his main complaint is that gay couples don't have the same estate and financial rights that married couples enjoy. I can understand that frustration, but again, that doesn't mean the answer is to define a homosexual relationship as a marriage. Just fix the legal rights of domestic partnerships, civil unions, etc.

As far as paying taxes goes, that seems to be a rather knee-jerk reaction to this situation. Should those against abortion stop paying taxes because they think the practice should be illegal? If people want to change society, they need to realize that it's a lengthy, difficult process. I don't see why this one issue should make someone so ashamed of their country that they refuse to support it.

I am a married heterosexual, so ane could argue that I am biased, but I do not understand the desire for a homosexual to participate or partake in a union that was initiated by God when homosexuality is called a sin by God. And I think the author of this blog is right, marriage is defined as the union between a man and a woman under God. I could tell everyone that I am a runner and join a running club, but if I dont run then I am not really a runner -- even if I have convinced others that I do... taxes or no taxes.

I am not trying to be rude (I really am curious - as I have only looked at this from one way), but what is the desire to be in a God-created union, when you have no intension of being united in a Godly way? Or is it that you believe God views homosexuality in a positive light?
Also, what if a man loved two women and wanted to marry both of them, should the law recognize that union? The same question with an adult who is in love with a minor and the minor is in love with the adult. Same question again with someone who may love their pet and want to marry it. Should these marriages be recognized?

Lastly, if the government said that I could not have married my wife, I would not have worried too much about it because I know that my union would still be recognized by God. Could any of these other scenarios be the same?

I would like to add that I am related to a "big-wig" in Washington DC, who happens to be a Republican and works for Natural Conservation, or the EPA (something like that), and I am told that teh Ice caps up North are indeed melting and the inuits and eskimos are having to retreat farther inland. these events have not occured in our written history. Of course, my memory could be poor, and I certainly did not gather any data on my own - I could be mistaken.

Should be easy to look up. Man has hunted certain animals to extinction. And we try to put out forest fires and I don't think it's because we believe the fire will destroy the earth if we leave it, but we know it can cause some serious damage. Would anyone argue that the firefighters are foolish, and that they labor in vain? ...Stupid firefighters, they're not honest enough to realize that God will destroy the earth, not some electrical fire or forest fire.
