I think you hit the nail on the head.

I Romans 10:8 couples nicely with your thoughts:
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach).

Along with Matthew 12:34,
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

If we believe then we should be proclaiming!

Very good thoughts Nathan.

Being a Christian is about much more than just "going through the motions", esp. if that's all that's being done. I agree with you about "Accidental Christians". At times I've really reflected on my salvation and wondered if I would be a Christian today and know the truth if I hadn't been blessed by Godly parents who took me to services and thankfully taught me as a child. I'm thankful to God for them. I like to think that if someone had approached me with the Gospel that I would have accepted it, belived and obeyed. Who knows. Really, it doesn't matter now except in the fact that I am responsible for myself to God.

But on the other hand, if we have the right attitude, good actions should follow don't you think? Someone who professes to follow Christ but doesn't take the time to gather with saints and worship, or live Christ-like probably doesn't have the right attitude or their priorities in order.

Christ also says in Matthew 7: 13-20

13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

He says will we be known by our fruits. A bad tree CANNOT bear good fruit. While living moral or Christ-like lives and attending services aren't the fullfillments of being a Christian it does usually begin there don't you think? And really, since God's asked us to do it, we should. With everything the Lord does for us it's the LEAST we can do for Him. And God gives us commandments for our benefit as well. When we live Christ-like our lives are less complicated and confusing; when we gather and worship we are edified, strengthened and encouraged to teach others and fight "the good fight".

But I do think it's easy to fall into complacency, just like the church in Revelation 3 that you mentioned. And in Matthew 7 Christ said, "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire". Besides, how often do you see someone who is just going through the motions really able to make an impact on someone who isn't a Christian? On the other hand it's difficult to take a Christian seriously about "weightier matters" when they don't do the "simplier, easier things" God's commanded.

But Satan is very good; and for some of us it isn't as outwardly noticable as sinning...maybe he'll just get us being lazy...and keep us there! Either way we have to fight...and teach...and obey. Usually obeying and teaching help us to fight!

Glad to see you posting again. I think you hit on something very important. I am often reminded that Christ seemed to repremand the pharisees for their hearts/motives not so much their actions.

Sadly, the Christianity that's taught in the Western world is a selfish, man-pleasing sort of faith...you don't hear very often about surrendering everything to God...

I'm glad you understand...very few seem to...
